The Bell County Women’s Bar Association is presenting a CLE on October 10, 2024 at 11:50 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Assistant County Attorney, Dylan Barbosa, will present the CLE on Sovereign Citizens.

The presentation will be in the Auxiliary Courtroom of Judge Darby or can be attended via Zoom.

Please post the following information to the Bar’s website and FB page so that members can attend.

    Date: October 10th at noon.

Place: Auxiliary Courtroom (Judge Darby) or via Zoom.

    Topic: Sovereign Citizens

The sovereign citizen presentation is designed to lay the foundation of a growing problem in the legal field: how to address those who do not believe they are subject to the laws of this country and the states. It starts with a brief perspective as to the history of the sovereign citizen movement. The presentation then transitions to who sovereign citizens are at present. It ends with legal authority – namely in the criminal field – that lawyers should be able to immediately recall when faced with a direct jurisdictional challenge from sovereign citizens. While it is a niche subject, learning how to address sovereign citizens should reaffirm the fundamental basics each lawyer should know in their respective fields.
